The works in Sojourn relate to my re-location to Europe from Australia in July 2001. .

From the painfully bright and desolate Salt Lakes of South Australia, to the two thousand year old lost civilisation of Pompeii, from the vaporous skies of Zurich’s winter in Night View, to the burnt siennas of Rome and Western Australia in Rusted II, my intent was to capture a feeling or moment in time, rather than a physical place.

I’ve attempted to assimilate the ever-changing landscape by building up the paper surfaces layer by layer, leaving only traces of what lies underneath. To achieve these tactile surfaces, I’ve incorporated a variety of mixed media including linseed oil, india ink and pigment.
