Melinda Schawel is an American/Australian artist living & working in Melbourne, Australia. She received a BA in Fine Art and Communication from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1993 and a Postgraduate Degree in Printmaking from RMIT in 1996. She has exhibited nationally & internationally since 1995, was recently commissioned by the City of Casey (Melbourne) & Creative Road to create her first public art project, represented Wagner Contemporary at Sydney Contemporary Art Fair in Sep 2018, represented Hill Smith Gallery at Art Central Hong Kong in Mar/Apr 2018, was a guest on The Art Show podcast, has been a finalist in the Whyalla Art Prize 2017, the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing 2017 (People's Choice Award), Nillumbik Prize 2013/15/16 & Fisher's Ghost Award 2012/2015. She was featured in the Art Collector Art Under 10K SCAF 2018 edition, Art Guide, Artist Profile Magazine, The Jealous Curator blog & was artist in residence at the Art Vault in April 2016. Her work has been published by Murtra Edicions in Spain and is represented in numerous collections including Crown Towers in Perth, the National Gallery of Australia & Artbank.
